More information about Barley wine 2023
TYRELL BARLEY WINE (or Barleywine) is a strong beer with high tasting factor and sweet, full and at the same time spicy mouthfeel. It is dominated by caramel and wood notes, coupled with a rich bitterness, the aroma of ripe berries and a fine acidity.
After 2020 and 2021, this is already the 3rd vintage of this unique beer.
A barley wine is classically made from the front wort (the core, so to speak) of a brew, as this has the correspondingly high original wort content to be able to produce a beer with an alcohol content similar to wine. In addition, the wort is intensively evaporated. This results in dark colors and intense sweet caramel notes in the beer. Due to the high alcohol content, barley wines have always been kept for that special moment of enjoyment. At TYRELL BrauKunstAtelier, we use specially selected caramels for our barley wine, which are already roasted in the malt house specifically for this beer style. We attach great importance to a pronounced bitterness, which limits the malty sweetness. Subsequent aging on cognac barrel wood rounds out this beer style with pleasant wood notes and a spiciness and mild acidity unique to this wood.
A pleasure for quiet hours, but to accompany an appealing meal.

With an eagerness to experiment between German tradition, South American lightness and North American confidence, Thomas Tyrell has already taken on many challenges in the past. He has been brewing beer since 1991 and the list of his brewing experiences is long. Many are familiar with his work as head brewmaster at Stone Brewing in Berlin. Since 2020, he has been taking care of the royal class of beers - the matured ones - in his own BrauKunstAtelier. Beer styles that are a pleasure to drink even after years of cool storage. In terms of beer style, brewing process and choice of ingredients, the focus is on bottle aging. Be it through coffee-like roasted malt; be it through the harmonious symbiosis of yeast and lactic...
