Palim Palim is the onomatopoeic paraphrase of a sound that has long since been forgotten. In the past, every small town had a grocery store, often called a corner store. These small stores sold a colorful mix of everyday items. If you wanted to buy apples, pencils or a mop, you went to Tante Emma and were greeted by the cheerful "Palim, palim" of the doorbell. A legend of German cabaret took up this sound in a sketch and planted Palim Palim forever in the memory of the Germans.
The Hamburg guys at the ÜberQuell brewery have nothing to do with colonial goods or cabaret, but they found the name so resonant that they immediately came up with a beer to go with it. Palim Palim from ÜberQuell is a Pale Ale that delights with an unusual flavor pairing: citrus-fresh fruit meets creamy caramel!
Palim Palim presents itself in an enticing, slightly cloudy amber hue in the glass and exudes a delightful potpourri of aromas as soon as it is poured. Buttery, sweet popcorn meets refreshing citrus and a subtly bitter, playfully floral hop note. The forward drink follows on the heels of the first impression, revealing a medium-heavy body with gentle carbonation. On the tongue, fresh, juicy lemons meet tart grapefruit, buttered caramel popcorn and a hint of sun-ripened orange.
ÜberQuell's Palim Palim Pale Ale is a harmonious ale so subtly composed and elegantly balanced that it could undoubtedly come from England, the home of ales.
