Singapore Sling
The Singapore Sling is an absolute cocktail classic that was created in Singapore in the early 20th century. Thanks to its fruity and refreshing taste, it has become one of the most famous cocktails in the world. It is a firm fixture on the cocktail menu in many bars and restaurants and is considered a cult drink in Singapore.
The Singapore Sling is the perfect drink for hot days and is ideal for enjoying by the pool or on the beach.
Singapore Sling - the recipe
Ingredients (for 2 people):
- 8 cl gin
- 3 cl cherry liqueur
- 3 cl Cointreau
- 24 cl pineapple juice
- 6 cl fresh lime juice
- 1.5 cl grenadine syrup
- 1.5 cl Bénédictine herbal liqueur
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 2 cherries
- 2 slices of pineapple
- Soda water (if required)
Preparation:
- Fill a shaker with ice.
- Add the gin, kirsch, Cointreau, pineapple juice, lime juice, grenadine syrup, Benedictine and bitters. Shake well.
- Strain into two tall glasses filled with ice. Top up with soda water if desired and stir gently.
- Garnish with a cherry and a slice of pineapple.

Facts about the Singapore Sling
The Singapore Sling was invented at the beginning of the 20th century in the Long Bar in the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. It was originally intended as a drink for women because of its sweet and fruity taste - however, it quickly became an absolute hit across gender boundaries.
There are many variations of the Singapore Sling recipe. Unfortunately, the original recipe has been lost over time. But whether the cocktail is made with Cointreau, Triple Sec or Grand Manier - they all evoke a longing for an exotic, warm vacation destination.
